Common Searches Among New Home Buyers
As the New Year approaches, there are certain items that new home buyers are mainly looking at when entering the housing market. Buyers like to search for and debate which home details are most important to them and consider those when they make one of the most significant life decisions.
Two search results that go hand in hand are buyers looking for sustainability and climate resiliency. Buyers both want to have homes with as little climate impact as possible while keeping in mind how the climate affects where houses should be built with as little risk as possible. Home insurance rates are rising, and buyers are even more aware of where they choose to live and how that impacts their community. People also want their homes to withstand intense climate events with as minor damage as possible. Making home improvements that consider these issues may also boost the value of a home and should be something a seller should think about before listing a house.
A lot of the search results have related underlying threads. With rising mortgage rates, people are not getting large, sprawling homes and are thinking more “cozy” with a “nostalgic” feel to their property searches. Buyers want to marry the energy efficiency of a house with the feel of character of an older style.
Buyers are also interested in specialty rooms that cater to specific needs. Recent searches have highlighted reading rooms or home libraries. While gaming rooms and man caves have gained popularity, buyers also require a quiet, relaxing space. Speaking of luxury, people are also hyper-interested in making the bathroom experience a vital focus. The need to have both a shower and a bathtub is becoming necessary for new buyers. Upgrades in the bathroom may also be a focus when deciding to sell a home in the future.
As you go into the New Year and into the home buying process make sure you have a clear plan on what you want and what you need.
