Happening Around Hot Springs Village

Are you bored? Looking for something to do around the Village in September? Your search might end here! This blog post will highlight three unique events happening in the next few weeks in HSV.

HVAC Builders Meeting

We'll begin with the simplest activity first: the third Builder Series meeting, being held on September 30. Attend this meeting to learn about heating, air conditioning, and proper maintenance from Tropic Air's Mike Dannels. The presentation will begin at 3:00 pm at the Coronado Center and end with the awarding of a door prize! If you plan on attending the meeting, please call the Permitting & Inspections Office at 501-922-556 in order to reserve your seat.

Tennis Tournament

If you're looking for something more physical than a meeting, then this event might be for you! The 2015 Riser Ford Nissan Tennis Tournament will be played from September 25-27. This USTA-sanctioned adult tournament will include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles play. Registration includes lunch on Saturday as well as a free T-shirt. The registration deadline is September 23 and entry fees are between $23 and $28 per player. If you are interested, you can register online at the event's USTA page or you can email Bob Wagstaff at [email protected] for additional information.

Lifeguard Training Course

We've saved the most intense event for last! From 4-9 p.m. on September 14-18, the American Red Cross will be conducting a lifeguard training course at the Coronado Fitness Center. This training course will teach you the skills necessary to prevent and respond to an aquatic emergency. Anyone at or over the age of 15 may register for this course, which will provide 2-year lifeguard certification upon completion. The registration fee is $50, a small price to pay for potentially life-saving information!

This is a serious course which will cover numerous topics, some of which include land and water skills, first aid, patron surveillance, rescue skills, victim assessment, CPR/AED, care for head, neck and spinal injuries, as well as administering emergency oxygen. Furthermore, the center is looking for new part-time lifeguards who can work 10-20 hours per week! If you're interested in the course, contact Deb Johnson at the Coronado Fitness Center by calling 501-922-1230 or sending an email to [email protected].
